TG Makes Move To AA

The Totino-Grace High School boys hockey program opted up to compete in Class AA starting in the 2019-2020 school year. Totino-Grace players and coaches are familiar with the landscape of AA hockey as our boys teams have been competing in a conference with Class AA teams for several years. Totino-Grace Athletic Director Mike Smith shares, "Our boys hockey program has been built on a solid foundation; participation levels are strong, and our team has been competitive. Now is the right time to make the move to Class AA. We are excited by the possibility of attracting more interest in the Eagle hockey program as a result of the change."

Team Philosophy

Totino-Grace boys hockey fields a Varsity and Junior Varsity team, which compete in the Northwest Suburban Conference. The teams in the conference include, Elk River, Blaine, Centennial, Andover, Champlin Park, Anoka, Oseeo, Armstrong/Cooper, Irondale, Spring Lake Park and Coon Rapids. Both teams play a 25 game schedule, plus additional scrimmages.  Tryouts are in mid-November, are free of cost, and open to any hockey player at TG. Typically, 45-60 players participate in the tryout.  Players are chosen for our teams on the basis of hockey ability and attitude and must also be academically eligible.  We stress the importance of academics for our hockey players and are very proud of the fact that we have won the Section Academic Award for the highest team G.P.A. seven times with a team average of over 3.4 each year.

To further athlete and program development, each summer our Totino-Grace boys hockey STP program runs from the beginning of June through the end of July. Our focus on skill development as well as team concepts helps our athletes learn about and work on their game, while getting to know the coaching staff.

The team practices at the Brooklyn Park Community Center.
